More shows are coming!

It’s August and melting hot! Last month, I had a concert at the liquor store which has a history of over 130 years. A friend from NYC was travelling in Japan and stopped by with his saxophone. We had fun with great audience. Thank you! This month in Sapporo and Osaka, and in October, I’ll have a tour starting at Body & Soul Tokyo with Marion Cowings from NYC. We’ll come to Kyoto, Nara and Sapporo then. Please check the date and mark the calendar!

Had a blast & more is coming!

It’s July. Half a year flew by..... Last month, I had a blast in NY, Houston and Sapporo! It was the happiest time singing with my favorite, amazing band! Relaxing time in NY!

I went camping to upstate NY. Fresh air, birds twittering, towering trees, full moon, lakes and waterfall hike, beautiful mountains, the crackling sound of bonfire and chatting with bestie, morning coffee and evening wine... Flying off to America!

I’ve been staying in Sapporo for 2 weeks. Winter-bare landscape is turning into fresh green..... I truly respect and appreciate the power of nature. It always amazes me! I can take a deep breath... Spring has Sprung!

Spring has sprung! It always makes me smile. Due to abnormal weather this year, cherry blossoms were taking a while to bloom, even though I enjoyed the one in front of my balcony in Tokyo and now still enjoy the one in Osaka and Kyoto. Their life is so fleeting and so beautiful that I always learn to live in the moment from them. Last month we had a blast @ Rusutsu 100 Days Music Live! And I’ll be singing @ Kyoto Le Club Jazz on April 18! Join us for a happy time with GREAT MUSIC!

Escape to North country!

It was a warm winter and allergy season started very early in Tokyo, Osaka and many places. I’ve been suffering hay fever since I was 14 years old. I always wear masks and glasses to prevent and avoid allergic triggers, but not enough... So I’ll escape to North country! I’ll be singing @ Rusutsu Resort from March 13th to 15th. February is the Month of LOVE!

It’s February! The Month of LOVE! Let’s celebrate the strength and beauty of LOVE! I’ll have a show @ Sapporo Slowboat Jazz Club on February 14th, Valentine’s Day! It’s just around the corner. Wishing you all a healthy peace-filled year in 2024

The Massive Noto Peninsula Earthquake broke out on New Year’s Day. And the next day, Japan Airline plane crashed into quake aid plane and burst into flames at Haneda Airport... Large numbers of people died, and more people are missing... Lots of evacuees need help... My heart goes out to them... I’d like to send them STRENGTH & LOVE. I deeply pray for the quick recovery of the disaster-stricken areas.

I would like to thank you all!

Only a few days left of 2023....time has gone by so quickly! I spent two weeks in NYC this month. I walked around Central Park every day and enjoyed the fresh crisp air, cardinals singing, hungry squirrels and beautiful Canada goose. Lots of music with old friends as always...precious time! I would like to thank you all for coming to see my shows in 2023! I will be singing my heart out to keep jazz music alive next year too! Looking forward to seeing you all then. Happy Holidays!

Last month, Marion Cowings, my mentor, was here in Japan from NYC. Even though we were up to our neck in work every day, we had a blast! Hot days still continue...

It’s September already, but the hot days still continue..... I stayed in Sapporo for almost a whole month in August. Since there’s no AC in my parents’ house, I felt like melting in the heat of 102°F! Even though I managed two gigs there and had lots of fun! Thanks for coming!

It’s been 78 years since World War II ended.. August 15 is the memorial day in Japan. But wars are still breaking out constantly all over the world. Violence is not the solution. Fighting does not solve anything. Too many people are losing their precious lives... NO MORE WAR! I pray for PEACE and sing for LOVE!

Stayed in Sapporo last month, avoiding the gloomy rainy season, but the weather was not as fresh as I thought... Global warming seems to continue... A Fresh Start!

Back in Tokyo. It’s a gloomy rainy season, but I’m feeling great! The trip last month to the US brightened me up! In NYC, I ran into my old friend, one of the greatest guitarists, who helped me a lot when I started singing jazz. It was fun remembering shared memories... In Houston, I also got together with my old musician friends and sang with them. We are aged, but we all stay young at heart and MUSIC was AMAZING as always! I will never give up singing my true heart out!!!

Greenery is bursting!

I’m in NYC. The greenery is bursting with life when I’m walking around Central Park..... What a wonderful time of the year! I attended Barry Harris Jazz Memorial at St Peter’s Church. Music and positive energy touched my heart. Sheila Jordan talked about beautiful memories with Barry when they were very young and sang a special song they used to sing together. It moved me to tears. I’d like to sing my true heart out like she did when I’m her age...and I will!!!

Spring has sprung!

I went to Kyoto to see cherry blossoms. I saw hundreds of cherry trees along the railway tracks on my way and they were AMAZING! In comparison, there were too many people in Kyoto and I couldn’t enjoy it enough since I’m not good with crowds. People were from all over the world and I liked to see them all smiles. Wishing you Peace, Love and Happiness in 2023!

Happy New Year! As always, I rang the new year with my elderly parents in Sapporo. Winter there tends to get extremely cold with heavy snow and it’s hard for them to get through... But I was very happy when I found my dad walking on icy and slippery road with steady steps! Contrarily, I got very sick for new year holidays... I’m confident of my physical strength and always end up going too hard on myself. I’ll have to slow down a little, listen to my heart and body and keep singing! Got a lot of energy in NYC !

Many thanks to those who watched “Online Live Show @ Home #2”! The cherry blossoms from my balcony were so beautiful even in the rain. They are all gone now and turned into bright fresh green which calms me down as always. The power of nature is amazing!

A wish for PEACE

Putin of Russia launched an invasion of Ukraine on February 24. Thousands of Ukrainians were killed by this and so are Russian troops... Thousands of Ukrainians had to leave their own country and some Ukrainians are returning from abroad to help military efforts... It breaks my heart. PLEASE STOP THE WAR! NO MORE VICTIMS! Next Online Live with Cherry Blossom in Spring!

We have a cold winter this year! Winter in Sapporo is much colder than in Tokyo, but it feels warmer there because the heaters work very well inside buildings. But there are lots of snow and deep snow covers windows in my parents’ house. Snow removal work in the city can’t catch up with heavy snow... We are so ready for a pleasant spring! May 2022 be full of Smiles and Sunshine!

Last year I’d been struggling to keep singing in this covid pandemic. I started recording songs at home and edited the music videos, with the photos I took and with Japanese subtitles I translated. Then I uploaded on YouTube monthly. I believe that those videos show what kind of person I am and what I would like to express through my music. Music is my life. Recharge my batteries in NYC!

Last month, I was in NYC for the first time in 2 years. I’d been blessed with great weather and enjoyed blue skies of autumn and the beautiful colors of leaves in the crisp air. I visited some jazz clubs to see friends and it was all packed! NYC seemed to be back to normal, but I saw more homeless people and too many retail vacancies in the city. I reaffirmed that covid pandemic have severely affected human lives. But the strong city with variety of people, music, art and nature gave me energy to move on. Coming to New York!

It’s November. I’m coming to NYC for the first time in two years! So sad not having been able to travel for too long... I used to go back and forth between Tokyo and NYC so often. Looking forward to catching up with all my friends there and to walking around Central Park! And I’ll say to myself “It’s good to live it again”.

I miss “Autumn in New York”!

It’s October and autumn is in the air! My favorite season! Leaves start to change into color of orange, red and yellow...and beautiful clear skies with fresh and crisp air... So gorgeous! It’s hard not think of the song “Autumn in New York”. When Vernon Duke wrote this song in 1934, he was out of city and became homesick for Manhattan. Cherry blossoms (Sakura) bloomed earlier this year. They are too fragile and live only for a week or so... But they are extremely beautiful and touch many people’s hearts.  I admire their ephemeral beauty and I myself really want to make the most of my every living moment!

Happy New Year to everyone all over the world!

First of all, I’d like to express my sincere gratitude for your warmest support even though 2020 was a tough year for everyone. Right after the New Year, Japan’s second soft lockdown was declared for the capital and surrounding areas.
In America, US capitol was stormed by violent supporters of Donald Trump. It was terrifying and totally disgraceful. I think it was a direct attack on democracy... MUSIC is my weapon! Violence never wins! I will sing my heart out wishing for PEACE and LOVE.
I still believe that every cloud has a silver lining! Let’s make a fresh start in 2021!

The last gig in 2020 is @ Kyoto!

December is halfway over and 2020 is coming to an end.. Due to COVID-19, our lifestyle has changed and I believe that many of you may have found more important things in life.I’d been living and traveling overseas for years, and of course I never could be out of Japan this year. It’s hard to describe, but it made me such a strange feeling and it was tougher than I thought.. On the other hand, I was so happy to have enough time to take care of my elderly parents.　Even though we are all still having a very difficult time, I’m eager to do what I should do and what I love while being careful about the virus. The last 2020 gig is @ Kyoto Le Club Jazz. Please come to see me if you’re around.

New challenges.

We’re facing a very difficult situation in the whole world and my heart hurts so bad...  At the same time, I’m eager to try new things for my music. Last month, I recorded a song AT HOME for the first time and edited a video with pictures that I’ve taken before. Many people say it eases their heart. Hope for justice and for a better future.

Even though the COVID-19 battle still has a long way to go, the protesters rally daily against systemic racism and police violence all over the U.S. and throughout the world. Racism has been a big problem in American society with a long history, and I know how terribly all my African-American friends have been treated. HATRED IS TAUGHT, NO ONE IS BORN HATING. Racism is wrong and it must be stopped! We are all born equal and want to live every day to the fullest. Now is the time for each and every one of us to raise our voice for justice. It may not be easy and it may take some time, but we can make it! I’ll keep singing my true heart out to change this world even little by little.. with hope for justice and for a better future.

I’d like to thank all of you who came to see me @ BODY &SOUL in March. It’s unforgettable experience.. It’s been 3 weeks since then and things have changed… A show 4/22 @ Slow Boat, Sapporo is postponed.  We’ve been having very difficult time. Global coronavirus cases have passed 1.6 million and over 101,000 people have died.. Even though I’m an optimist normally, it’s hard to cheer me up in this circumstance.. I’m always asking myself, “What can I do now?” and find no answers. Maybe everyone feels the same. But I still believe “No winter lasts forever, no spring skips its turn” and “You Must Believe in Spring”! I’m looking forward to seeing your happy face after we succeed in fight against virus!!

Had a blast @ Rusutsu and I'm so thrilled with my first appearance @ BODY & SOUL in March!!

I performed 3 night (2/14-16) for Rusutsu 100 days Music Live which is supported by Sapporo City Jazz. Even though we had a huge problem with coronavirus, there were so many guests from all over Japan and the world. Lots of them came out to see us every day and I got the happiest message as well, “Your music has really made our stay in Rusutsu extra special”. I once again realized that Jazz is for the world, not just one city or country. Now I’m preparing for my first appearance @ BODY & SOUL on March 19th! Please come to see me there!!

Happy New Year 2020 and Many Thanks to 2019!

2019 was a great one even though it was filled with challenges. Sometimes I felt I was at my limit, but I kept hustling. Now I believe that those experiences helped me grow in many ways.

My birthday month (October) was a BLAST!

In October, I welcomed two mentors in Japan, Marion Cowings (from NYC) and Bob Henshen (from Houston). We had extremely busy days having private lessons and workshops from morning to late at night. Then we performed Birthday shows in Tokyo and Sapporo. Both shows were full house and we had a blast! It was a memorable birthday month! I appreciate your warmest support as always.

As I announced, I'll make my first appearance at Birdland Jazz Club NYC on September 19th, with the amazing musicians, Paul Meyers (Gt), Joe Davidian (P), Noriko Ueda (B), Dwayne 'Cook' Broadnax (Ds) and Marion Cowings (V & Perc)!!  I’m very happy and honored to perform there!

The Heisei era will come to an end

The new “REIWA” era has just begun on May 1st, 2019.
I’m so grateful for welcoming the new era with my elderly parents in my hometown, Sapporo.
My resolution is the same as 30 years ago (when SHOWA turned into HEISEI) and to cherish something eternal even if time goes by. Now as a singer, I’d like to keep telling true stories and singing my heart out through my music.

April 2019

The Heisei era will come to an end

In Japan, the Heisei era will come to an end on April 30. During the Heisei period (30 years), I spent most of time living outside of Japan. Wherever I live, I meet good people and so I believe that all human beings are the same. Why I’m singing jazz in English even though I’m a Japanese woman? Because I get such deep feelings when I sing songs from Great American Songbook..

On April 12 show in Houston, I wore KIMONO and sing “SUKIYAKI SONG” along with audience. I handed them the lyrics and my own translation in advance. We were the one! We were all smiles!!
I’ll keep singing my heart out and telling my stories now and forever. Thank you so much!

February has started in Jakarta!!

I joined a Fundraising concert of Daya Indonesia Performing Arts Academy where Nial Djuliarso (my music partner in Jakarta) teaches jazz piano and next day performed as a guest artist with Nial’s quartet at Amigos in Kemang. The band was great with young positive energy! I was so grateful for being able to share MUSIC which is universal language! During staying there, I got a sad news. Mr. Kiyoshi Koyama, a jazz journalist, passed away.. He played a song from my new album on NHK-FM “Jazz Tonight” and came to see me at my CD release live show with his wife. I was so delighted.. May he Rest In Peace..

Thank you very much to everyone for your warmest support in 2018. Wherever I go as a singer, I’m able to connect with people easily because MUSIC is universal language. I’m so grateful! I’ll keep making music this year and look forward to seeing you somewhere.

Thank you all for your warmest support in2018 !

I can't believe it's almost the end of the year. Time flies so fast..
I started 2018 with recording in NYC and worked so much for creating my new album. After releasing it in Japan on May 23rd, I tried to promote CD advertising on the magazines and the radio shows. My CD ranked 19th on Amazon.co.jp (9/22) and picked as Amazon's choice! I toured in Japan and returned to Houston for the release show. And I just finished the first show in Jakarta (Indonesia) on December 5th and had a great success with so many audience! Words cannot express my feelings, nor my thanks for all of your warm support!

Motion Blue Jakarta is a beautiful live music restaurant that offers luxurious yet relaxing atmosphere, partnered with Blue Note Tokyo and situated on the third floor of Fairmont Jakarta. This is my first appearance in Jakarta and I'm so looking forward to meeting new friends there and sharing my love of music.  Please join us for a special evening with beautiful Jazz and Brazilian music!

I released my new album "Why Did I Choose you?" on May 23rd, 2018 and just finished CD release Japan tour. I received a great acclaim from various quarters, appeared on the radio shows and my CD was favorably reviewed. Now I'm so happy to announce that I'm going to have my birthday and CD release show in Houston on October 28th, performing with my first CD recording band, Bob Henschen(P), Aric Nitzberg(B) and Tim Solook(Ds) @ Ovations! I'm so looking forward to sharing beautiful music and love with all my old friends!.

I’m very sad to announce that the great composer, Michael Leonard, died on Oct 31st 2015. He was always funny and witty. His beautiful music will be alive forever and I’ll sing one of his masterpiece “I’m All Smiles” for all my life from my true heart. RIP, Mickey... Thank you for everything...
